A lot of people don’t realize that their dental coverage has a “year end”. Meaning, there is only so much time within each year that they can utilize their benefits before they renew again. So taking advantage of all your benefits by using them up to the fullest capacity will ensure you are getting the most out of your dental insurance plan.
Although you may not need major dental repairs or orthodontics, it’s worth looking into what you can use up, as perhaps you have special provisions for teeth whitening services and other such cosmetic procedures.
How to Best Benefit from Your Benefits
Simply put, you or your spouse are paying for benefits – so don’t let them go to waste!
Find out what type of dental insurance you have coverage for, and whether your dentist participates in assigning your dental expenses directly to your insurance company, and begin to enjoy your benefits with little to no additional cost to you.
If you no longer have the information that came with your dental coverage plan, give your dental insurance company a call, and they can quickly inform you as to what is covered under your plan, what percentage of each procedure is covered, and the yearly deductable if applicable.
Also, you will want to know what a “year” of coverage means to your provider. Does it run from January – December each year, or is it based on the month you began your plan within?
Ask about waiting periods if you are new to the insurance company, and see when you are actually eligible for which treatments and services.
Perhaps a strange question, but still worth asking, is if they have a “missing tooth clause”, as some carriers limit benefits for missing natural teeth if they occurred prior to your coverage becoming active.
At DentistsRUs, we want all our patients to be able to take full advantage of their dental coverage, and maintain their oral health year after year without interruption.
