Candy is one of those sneaky culprits that can lodge itself into the crevices of your teeth, and begin its dirty deed of tooth decay. And the Christmas season is often packed with sugar-induced treats, and sticky candies just waiting to dislodge your fillings, or unhinge your braces.

Granted, these types of things (dislodged fillings and broken teeth) happen all year long with an even more unsuspecting villain – known as the bagel! But for the purposes of our current post, let’s solely address the sweet stuff, and you – the sweet tooth.

Broken teeth and dislodged fillings are no stranger to our dental team. Christmas or otherwise, we see kids and adults alike coming through our doors with a variety of concerns caused by their innocent sweet tooth indulgences. Now understand, we are not here to separate you from the fun of the season …largely being the treats that await, but rather just give you fair notice of what could happen in a candy crisis.

We traditionally try to “warn” our patients as the season approaches, about hard, gummy, chewy or sticky candies -and let’s not forget about the caramel chocolates too- as a dental emergency is an inconvenient hassle at any time of the year …but especially over the Christmas season.

If you do have an emergency, we encourage you to call one of our offices right away to schedule an appointment. The sooner you have it addressed, the less damage your teeth will incur.

Also, feel free to peruse our website, as it offers helpful information on how to address concerns such as these.

If you have a dental emergency after regular office hours, please give one of our Dentists R Us offices a call, and our answering service will prompt you as to our emergency contacts.

We are here to help you every step of the way, which includes during your holiday sweet tooth blunders!
