At DentistsRUs, we understand that there are certain individuals who have a difficult time undergoing dental treatment due to their fear of the process. Whether you have had an unfortunate experience at another dental office, or you simply have issues with the sound, smell or overcoming mental images of oral treatments, at DentistsRUs – we want to ensure your comfort is addressed from start to finish, and keep you in perfect health regardless of your fear.
The Benefits of IV Sedation
Intravenous (I.V.) Sedation, also called Conscious Sedation or “twilight sleep”, means you are given a medication to make you relaxed and drowsy, which is administered directly into your bloodstream via a small plastic catheter, which is introduced into a vein in your arm or hand, similar to having a blood test.
Throughout the process you will be carefully monitored, and for your safety, there is some awareness in order for you to be able to follow basic commands, but you are in an “altered state” which is usually perceived as quite pleasant.
Local anesthesia is also used, thereby eliminating any discomfort for your oral care treatment. Though most of the procedure is usually forgotten, you may remember portions of it, and you may not remember much about what went on because of two factors: firstly – in most people, IV sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of not being bothered by what’s going on. Secondly, the drugs used for IV sedation can produce either partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the period of time when the drug first kicks in until it wears off. As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much, or perhaps even nothing at all. So it may, indeed, appear as if you were “asleep” during the procedure.
IV sedation is a very popular option to significantly reduce anxiety, make the time pass quickly, and help you forget most of the procedure, all at a very reasonable cost.
At DentistsRUs, all of the services we offer can be treated very comfortably under IV sedation, and it is available at our Burnaby Sedation Dental office and at our Langley Sedation Dental office.
