Bad breath is never a good thing. It’s smelly, first of all, it is often embarrassing, and it can be frustrating to deal with.
So how does one go about busting their bad breath and understanding the reasoning behind it? Well DentistsRUs is here to help you with exactly that!
Bad Breath Busters
Bad breath, in its worst form, is known as halitosis. It is caused by anything from dental health concerns, to overall health problems. In addition, various foods and medications leading to dry mouth can also contribute to it.
So if you are a repeat offender of strong smelling foods, and your bad breath is of a greater concern than your enjoyment of those foods, then try cutting them out for a couple weeks and see if the smell clears up.
Also, if you haven’t had a visit to a dentist in quit some time, you may have a cavity creating a “stink” in your mouth that should be looked at before it leads to more serious concerns – including the need for a root canal, or gingivitis.
Ways to Fight Bad Breath
The obvious ones include eliminating foods as suggested above, brushing you teeth and tongue, as well as flossing your teeth. Odors can linger on your tongue, so don’t miss cleaning it!
Also, if you are taking medications leading to dry mouth, ask your doctor if there are any other kinds that will tackle the same medical issue without that side effect. Or if medication is not the cause, be sure to let your doctor know you are experiencing dry mouth, as it can also be caused by diabetes, liver or kidney problems …among other health concerns.
Alternately, as your dentist about dry mouth sprays, or inquire into whether your salivary glands are the culprit.
At DentistsRUs, our dental professionals across the Lower Mainland can help you treat your bad breath, assisting you in uncovering the cause and coming up with a treatment plan in order to help you have fresh breath for the summer months ahead!
